Amador Wine Country Visiting the wineries of Amador County is a delight. Most are small family operations where unpretentious hospitality is the norm. All are located along scenic backroads in some of California's most picturesque rural settings. You can sip wine while gazing at the beautiful, snow-capped Sierras and picnic under grand old oak trees surrounded by vines. And Amador wineries are easy to reach, nestled between highways 50 and 88 along historic Highway 49. Fair Play Deep in the heart of the Sierra Nevada foothills lies one of the wine world's best kept secrets... Fair Play. You will find over 20 family-owned boutique wineries who take pride in their land, their wines, and their customers. Anderson Valley An important moment in Anderson Valley wine history took place in 1982, when the French firm Champagne Louis Roederer announced its plans to build a California sparkling wine facility in Anderson Valley. Valley grapes had been going into sparkling wine production for several years. In fact, Scharrfenberger Cellars of Ukiah and several other Mendocino County producers had selected Anderson Valley as an area ideally suited to growing top-notch Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for their sparkling wine cuvees. |
